Bedtime Routine

You are Capable.  Strong.  Precious.  Glorious.  Worthy.  Brave.  And powerful.

You are unstoppable.

You are not defined by your diagnosis.

You have a purpose.

These are statements that I say to Gavin every night while he falls asleep in my arms.  I say them every night because I believe these things to be true.  More importantly, I want him to believe these things to be true.  I want him to store these words deep within his tiny body.  I want these words to be branded on his soul.  Because there are days…. and many more days to come that he will need to dig deeper than I have ever had to or even imagined.  My hope is that when he digs into that space he hears these words and BELIEVES them.  That he adamantly acknowledges them as true and genuine affirmations.

The second part of this meaningful ritual is me restating these words a second time replacing you with “I”.

I am Capable.  Strong.  Precious.  Glorious.  Worthy.  Brave.  And Powerful.

I am unstoppable.

I am not defined by your diagnosis.

I have a purpose.

As his mother, I need to adamantly acknowledge these as true and genuine affirmations.  Because they are 100% true.  Period.  End of story.  Not only true on the really great reaching milestones days.  Not only true on the therapy filled days.  Not only true on the rest days.  True. On. All. The. Days.  Period.

On the toughest days, this brings me to tears.  Like sloppy mess, ugly cry tears.  Some days, a single tear will drop from my eye roll down my cheek and fall onto his sweet head.  Other days, I am beaming from ear to ear while I say these words.  No matter what happened that day, we set it aside and allow ourselves to be reminded of the truth.  We are capable, strong, precious, glorious, worthy, brave, and powerful.  We are unstoppable.  We are not defined by your diagnosis.  We have a purpose.

#TRUTH: You are capable.

We tell D on a daily basis that he is smart, kind, brave and strong. That he will grow up to be a man of God and love Jesus with his whole heart. He has started repeating some of the words back to us when we tell him he is one of the words. All of the weepy tears. Cheering you on, and grateful you are in a place to tell more of your incredible story!

As a mom of a very special angel who was a very special young man I learned so much during his lifetime. God couldn’t of Gavin Gavin to a more special mom. You were such an amazing support during such difficult time in our life! You are so loved and so blessed with such a beautiful young man. God knew exactly what he was doing when he put Gavin into your life.

These words—I feel the strength in them. Having worked alongside you briefly, I have no doubt Gavin hears them and holds the beliefs inside him, and he believes in you, too!!💗💗
